Day 1 - we hosted an enlightening conference at the KL Convention Centre, Plenary Theatre for Tax Budget 2025 & Digital Conference.
The day began with an engaging session led by Mr. Yee CM, the Group CEO. He explained how AI will revolutionize tax compliance, making it possible to submit and receive refunds for excessive tax payments in just seconds — all while enjoying a cup of coffee. This future of tax compliance will integrate seamlessly into daily life, aligning with current business conditions, projections, and regulations to keep businesses competitive.
Next, En. Amiruddin bin Abdul Shukor, Head of Corporate Services at MDEC, took the stage to highlight MDEC's role in driving the digital economy, with a special focus on the important contributions of SMEs. Emphasizing our theme, "Together, We Innovate for Impact," he called on professionals, industry players, regulators, professional bodies, government agencies, and SMEs to collaborate in steering the country toward becoming a leading digital economy in the ASEAN region.
Pn. Norhaslinda binti Bukhari, Director of the Tax Policy Department at LHDNM, then expanded on the Prime Minister's National Budget 2025 announcement, specifically addressing the introduction of a dividend tax and sharing key insights. She reassured that SMEs meeting their obligations and adhering to the rules should not fear repercussions, as the IRBM is open to suggestions.
The first panel session featured Dr. Veerinderjeet Singh, Surin Segar, and Datuk Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, who offered their expertise in various fields. They shared technical tax aspects, while Datuk Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, a former CEO of MDEC, discussed digital transformation resources available to support SME growth, along with assistance from various government agencies. The session was expertly moderated by JJ Gow of Wezmart Group.
Throughout the conference, the spirit of "Together, We Innovate for Impact" was evident, showcasing the collaboration between government agencies like MDEC and LHDNM, industry professionals, corporate tax experts, and technologists.
